We know local access to healthy foods is an economic priority for our region. As part of our Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, our stakeholders asked us to improve access to healthy foods over the next five years. And we believe generosity and empowerment are gifts that keep on giving. That’s why we want to plant apple trees in each of the 82 communities we serve.
In November of 2021, we participated in Give to the Max Day, GiveMN’s one-day statewide fundraising effort, to offer two apple trees to every community in our nine-county region.
Donors responded! We raised over $1,800, and so far this year, apple trees have taken root in Moorhead, Lowry, Rothsay, Campbell, and Detroit Lakes. Several other communities are on the spring 2023 planting schedule.
We’re working with towns to complete this project and encourage self-sufficient food production. Contact us if your community isn’t on the schedule yet, or if you want to know if your town or school is participating.

Give to the Max Day 2022
Give to the Max Day 2022 is November 17, and we will again focus fundraising on helping communities plant the seeds of the future.
“Due to popular demand following our Apple Tree Project fundraiser last year, we’re extending the project to include school districts inquiring about planting healthy food for their students,” said our Director of Development Rebecca Lynn Petersen. “So, let’s raise money to start apple orchards across our region!”
