We’re thrilled to introduce Communications Intern, Aubrey Wookey.
Aubrey recently completed her first year at South Dakota State University and will graduate next spring with her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, with a minor in Health Communication. Aubrey is from New London, Minnesota, where she graduated from Ridgewater College with her Associate of Liberal Arts and Sciences Degree in 2020.
Her degree choice is driven by her love for community and background in healthcare. Working as a Certified Nursing Assistant before and during the first peaks of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aubrey saw firsthand how front-line workers needed both a community and advocates to support them. Changing her degree path from nursing to communications was “the absolute best thing I could have ever done,” said Aubrey. “I found new passions for writing, social media content creation, and event planning and management!”
Aubrey just finished her first week at West Central Initiative and is excited to be working on social media content creation and has some fun projects ahead of her, particularly with our Live Wide Open regional-recruitment campaign! She loves both the work environment and the values of our organization.
Outside of work and school, Aubrey enjoys almost anything that keeps her active in the great outdoors! She frequently kayaks and hikes in the wonderful environment around New London, spending any additional free time at the lake or in the woods. In her opinion, breakfast food is cooked best over the fire and should be served for any meal. Being an extrovert, she often brings friends and family along on her many adventures.
