Last week someone shared with me an article titled “More than Target” from a community in South Dakota. As I read it, I couldn’t help but think of Barnesville as I too have heard the words, “I don’t think I could live that far from a Target” when speaking about Barnesville.
Barnesville may not have a Target; it has SO much MORE!
Now I, like many, do enjoy roaming the aisles at Target for various things. For many it is a staple in their life. Growing up and living in a small town, I have learned to value the small-town community much more than the convenience of living in close proximity to a big box store.

Here are a few reasons why…
Safe Community: A top priority here thanks to a devoted Fire Department, well trained EMTs and a proactive Police and Sheriff’s department.
Healthcare: We are extremely fortunate to have a clinic with a devoted staff, as well as vision care, dentists, therapy services, nursing home, pharmacy, chiropractic, and senior care.
Great School District and Activities: Our kids are provided with a sound learning environment and have the support of the entire community. There are multiple opportunities for various activities for both participants and spectators!
Shopping & Services: The customer service, quality products and knowledge of local employees is what sets us apart from the big retailers. These businesses are also the ones who are the first to open their wallets when it comes to supporting local activities and events in town!
No Traffic: You know exactly what I’m talking about! I haven’t seen many traffic jams on Front Street. It is easy to maneuver through at any time of the day, with some exceptions of orange cones, farm machinery and kids on bikes.
These are just a few reasons of what makes Barnesville such a great place to live. But the one reason that tops the list is the people. The people here truly care about you and your family. The relationships and connections we have with people run deep. We take care of each other and support one another.
Barnesville doesn’t have a Target, but it has so much more!
