Goal 2: Zero Hunger

We can end hunger and ensure enough nutritious foods are available to everyone in the region.

  • Growing Grant County

Through a partnership between the West Central Area and Ashby School Districts, local food shelves, and very supportive agriculturally based communities, Growing Grant County will build a system of collaboration to:
    • Grow more local food.
    • Provide training to students in the art of meat butchering and processing.
    • Support Grant County food shelves by increasing donations of fresh foods.
    • Create a more sustainable and resilient food system.

  • Community Funds

We support community funds in their pursuit of their local and global goals.

  • Historical Programs

In the 2022-2023 cohort of the Initiators Fellowship, we provided financial and social support to two of our neighbors engaged in food access and sustainable agriculture.

In response to food supply issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, we awarded funds from our Resiliency Fund to food shelves, as well as funded projects related to sustainable agriculture practices.

In 2019, West Central Initiative was awarded a technical assistance grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency to assist the Pelican Rapids community in bolstering their food-based economy.

  • Take Action
    • Donate food or funds to your local food shelf.
    • Place canned goods in your community’s little free library or senior center.
    • Do you know how to preserve food safely?  Offer your know-how to your school district’s Community Education program.
    • Organize a community meal through your local community club or religious organization.
    • Donate your time to caring for a community garden plot or orchard.
